Play for large margins of error
There are times that you do not need to play along a line to achieve position for the next shot but you do need to be in a specific area. You will often have several choices regarding positioning of the cue ball and/or the object ball/s for the next shot. Try to visualize an area that is as big as possible and which gives you the largest margin for error. If there is doubt on your positional result you should avoid trying to play within fine limits and aiming for precise positions. Try to play in a manner that allows you to cue freely and play to approximate positions that you can definitely achieve rather than precise positions that are risky.
