Try to play along lines

Often, by running your cue ball anywhere along a line you will maximize your chance of continuing the break. Aim to play along or as near to along lines as possible and avoid crossing lines. A good example of this is a 3/4 pot red off the billiard spot to leave a middle pocket cross loser. Do not play the run-through pot to bounce off the cushion as this crosses the half-ball line from the middle pocket to the edge of the red. Instead, play the pot to stun along the line. In the latter case, assuming you get something like the correct stun on the cue ball, you can play freely and the strength of the shot will not matter.
