The Two Loser Principle
When you are playing OPEN Billiards (not at the top), it is usually better to go in-off the red rather than to pot it. Whenever you have two losers, you have control and can manoeuvre the balls as you wish (providing your losing hazards are good enough). Top players will use this principle again and again, with the end result normally being top of the table; from two losers they aim to maneouvre the balls for two middle pocket losers, then drop the white and pot the Red for top of the table. If your game is not to play the top, you can play a sequence of red middle pocket losers with the white as a backup. Therefore, when in doubt:
